Wisconsin Air National Guardsmen recently participated in the National Guard Bureau’s Sentry Savannah 25-1 exercise in Savannah, Georgia. During the exercise, they demonstrated their tactical communication skills by operating out of mobile tactical operations centers and providing control for F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and T-38 Talon pilots. The Airmen convoyed from Wisconsin to Savannah, setting up their air control operation centers in austere locations within 36 hours. They simulated air war scenarios against peer adversaries, with T-38s acting as adversaries to provide realistic training for the pilots.
The exercise provided valuable training opportunities, including full setup and tear-down of mobile operations centers, which are not typically covered in routine training. Airmen mentioned the challenges they faced and the adaptability required in the absence of their home base equipment. They highlighted the importance of the exercise in testing their capabilities in a different environment and proving their ability to rapidly deploy under the Agile Combat Employment model. Overall, the exercise showcased the Guardsmen’s readiness to assist pilots in the field and control missions worldwide.
