Former Xavier High School Principal Responds After Termination
APPLETON (WLUK) — In the wake of his recent termination, former Xavier High School Principal Mike Mauthe has publicly accepted the decision made by the school and is urging the community to do the same. Mauthe’s dismissal followed a complaint filed with the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay, prompting an investigation that has now been handed over to local police.
Katie Heim, the Interim President of Xavier Catholic Schools, confirmed that the complaint was submitted to the Diocese’s Safe Environment Office, although she refrained from discussing specific details. The office is tasked with addressing issues involving harassment, boundary violations, threats, and various forms of misconduct. According to diocesan statements, law enforcement was contacted only after the internal investigation concluded.
Despite his termination, Mauthe has garnered public support, with a Facebook group titled "We Stand with Mike Mauthe!" amassing over 200 members. In a heartfelt letter shared on social media, Mauthe expressed acceptance of the school’s decision, acknowledging his past mistakes and emphasizing the importance of community healing.
“I am not a victim,” he stated. “I broke a policy and accept the consequences… I did not always maintain the proper boundaries of communication. That responsibility was mine.” Mauthe encouraged the community to refrain from protesting and instead focus on healing while expressing gratitude for the support he received.
He emphasized his commitment to self-reflection and personal growth, stating, “I need to be better, and I own my failures.” He concluded by asking for prayers as he contemplates his future and the lessons learned from his experiences. The investigation by the Appleton Police Department is ongoing, and officials have refrained from commenting further on the matter.
