The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued a warning to residents about the high fire danger in the state, with 63 wildfires burning 135 acres of land over the past weekend. The DNR is expecting dry weather and high winds this week, which will further increase the risk of wildfires across Wisconsin, including in Manitowoc and surrounding counties. While some counties do not require DNR burning permits, townships may have their own restrictions. The DNR urges residents to thoroughly extinguish fires to prevent wildfires, as they have responded to nearly 500 wildfires burning 2,000 acres in 2025 so far. Local fire departments have also been busy responding to numerous wildfires, with 49% of fires this year caused by debris burning. The DNR will be staffing all available fire equipment and shifting resources to areas with elevated fire risk to prevent further damage and protect residents and property.
