A new Right to Repair bill was introduced in Wisconsin on Thursday, with the aim of supporting farmers in the state. The legislation, introduced by State Sen. Brad Pfaff and Rep. Jenna Jacobson, requires manufacturers to provide repair documentation, data, parts, and tools to owners and independent mechanics at fair costs. The bill, which targets agricultural equipment, also protects manufacturers from liability for repairs.
Sen. Pfaff highlighted the importance of giving farmers the right to repair their own equipment or choose their own mechanic, emphasizing the potential for cost savings, increased competition, and job creation. The Wisconsin Farmers Union and ABATE of Wisconsin Inc. have both expressed support for the proposal, with the Farmers Union president, Darin Von Ruden, stressing the need to address the monopoly crisis in agriculture and promote fair markets.
This legislation is already law in five other states, and its introduction in Wisconsin aims to provide much-needed support to farmers facing rising costs and market challenges.
