The University of Wisconsin track and field teams have found a temporary indoor training facility in a warehouse in the Town of Arlington, located in Columbia County. The teams had to seek out this alternate arrangement due to the lack of a dedicated indoor track facility on campus. The warehouse, leased by the Badgers, features a 200-meter oval track and other spaces for training on field events. However, the facility cannot officially be used as an indoor track until the conclusion of a permitting process that is expected to take several months.
The new indoor practice facility near Camp Randall Stadium, which is part of a larger project, is not expected to be operational until 2026. Until then, the teams needed a space for winter training for the 2025-26 season. Despite facing challenges in finding a temporary location, the teams have been training at the warehouse since January. The facility, equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, is praised by team members.
The temporary arrangement has been made possible through the efforts of former Badgers track athlete Tara Clack Bell, whose family’s company owns the warehouse. The Badgers are leasing the 77,000-square-foot building through April 2026 for $25,000 per month. The long-term future of the track and field program at Wisconsin remains uncertain, as current and former athletes criticize the design of the new indoor practice facility being built on campus.
