The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is pleased to announce the conclusion of the 2024 nine-day gun deer hunt, which saw an increase in the number of hunters compared to the previous year. Preliminary figures show that 189,622 deer were registered during the gun season, with an increase of 5.2% compared to 2023. The harvest included 89,787 antlered and 99,835 antlerless deer, with counties like Adams, Vernon, and Florence leading in deer registrations per square mile in different zones.
The season, which ran from Nov. 23 through Dec. 1, was followed by other hunting opportunities, including muzzleloader season and antlerless-only hunts. The DNR also reported only one nonfatal firearm-related hunting incident during the 2024 gun deer season in Vernon County.
Hunters who harvested their first deer during the season are encouraged to obtain a first harvest certificate. The DNR will continue to provide updates on license sales, harvest totals, and hunting incidents as the hunting season progresses.
