Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, Ben Wikler, has announced his candidacy for the position of Democratic National Committee Chair. Wikler emphasized the need to build a stronger party to take on Republican extremists and move the country forward. He joins three other candidates in the race, following current chair Jaime Harrison’s decision not to seek re-election.
Wikler, who has been leading the Wisconsin Democratic Party since 2019, highlights his success in fundraising and winning key downballot races in the state. Under his leadership, Democrats were able to flip the majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, reelect Governor Tony Evers, and secure victories in state legislative races.
With experience in progressive advocacy groups like MoveOn.org and Avaaz, Wikler aims to unite the Democratic Party and lead it to victory in the upcoming elections. If elected, he would be the first DNC chair from Wisconsin.
The election for top leadership positions within the Democratic Party, including chair, is set for Feb. 1. Wikler’s platform focuses on organizing and communicating year-round in all parts of the state, aiming to replicate the success seen in Wisconsin on a national scale.
