Exploring a Historic Cranberry Farm in Wisconsin

Rooted In Red, a family-owned cranberry farm in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, is celebrating over 100 years in business as a top producer of cranberries. The farm is run by fourth- and fifth-generation farmers, Jamie Biegel and Rochelle Hoffman. Hoffman, who also teaches at Western Technical College, appeared as a guest judge on Bravo’s “Top Chef” Season 21, showcasing the versatility of Wisconsin cranberries. Despite challenges posed by Wisconsin’s weather, the farm’s crops remain strong, with a slight impact on color due to warmer temperatures. Rooted In Red has added special events and draws to attract visitors, with people coming from all over the world to learn about cranberries. Biegel’s great grandfather Charles Dempze started growing cranberries at the farm in 1919, and the family is proud to continue his legacy. Both Biegel and Hoffman are dedicated to educating future generations about agriculture and preserving the tradition of cranberry farming in Wisconsin.
