Wisconsin Officials and Experts Disprove Fraud Allegations in U.S. Senate Race

Tammy Baldwin Secures Victory as Eric Hovde Questions Election Integrity in Wisconsin

Democratic incumbent Tammy Baldwin has successfully been reelected to the U.S. Senate, representing Wisconsin, but her Republican opponent, Eric Hovde, has raised concerns about alleged "inconsistencies" in the election process, particularly surrounding the late-night reporting of absentee ballots from Milwaukee. Hovde shared a video on November 12, noting that he received congratulatory calls early on election night and felt optimistic about his chances. However, he claimed that the reporting of around 108,000 absentee ballots at 4 a.m., with Baldwin securing nearly 90 percent, was statistically improbable.

Despite Hovde’s claims, election officials and experts have dismissed suggestions of fraud or irregularities, maintaining that the late reporting was anticipated and communicated ahead of Election Day. The Wisconsin Election Commission asserted that understanding the counting process debunks the idea of "ballot dumps." Additionally, Hovde’s assertion of Wisconsin having eight million registered voters has been clarified by officials, who state that around 3.65 million are active.

Political analysts point out that absentee ballots in Milwaukee traditionally favor Democratic candidates due to robust voter registration initiatives. The Commission has also emphasized that no precinct reported exceeding 100 percent voter turnout this year.

As of November 18, with over 95 percent of votes counted, Baldwin holds 49.4 percent to Hovde’s 48.5 percent, while President-elect Donald Trump also claimed victory in the state by 30,000 votes. Hovde, who has not conceded, is considering requesting a recount once the results are certified, consistent with state law allowing for such actions when margins are close.

Election experts note that criticisms regarding Milwaukee’s vote count frequently arise in elections, though recounts seldom alter results.
