Press Release: Urgent Search for Missing Wisconsin Father After Work Trip to Chicago Suburbs
Crystal Lake, IL – A Wisconsin family is in distress as they seek answers following the disappearance of Ben Oberto, a husband and father of two, who went missing on Wednesday night after a work trip to the Chicago suburbs. Oberto, a resident of New Berlin, Wisconsin, was last seen at 1776 Restaurant in Crystal Lake, where he had been working for several hours.
Surveillance footage captured Oberto leaving the restaurant at approximately 8:56 p.m., with his car departing the parking lot shortly afterward at 9:02 p.m. He was tracked traveling on I-90, with his I-Pass registering at the Elgin Plaza at 9:27 p.m. His phone last pinged in the Rosemont area around 9:47 p.m. Soon after, the phone lost power, and there has been no activity on his credit cards since that time.
His wife, Laura Leatherberry, is grappling with the uncertainty of the situation while trying to comfort their 3-year-old son and 21-year-old daughter, who resides in New York. "Your head can go to a lot of different places. I just want him to be alive," she expressed, struggling to find the right words for her children when they need their father the most.
Oberto was last seen driving a 2019 Subaru Impreza with Wisconsin license plate "ANJ 2349." Although authorities in Crystal Lake and New Berlin have not confirmed a missing persons report, his family is urgently urging anyone with information to contact the local police.
The Oberto family remains hopeful for his safe return, and the community is rallied around them in their search for Ben.
