Suspect in custody after shots fired at Atlanta Four Seasons Hotel building

A police officer and a suspected shooter were injured in a shooting incident at a Midtown Atlanta building housing a Four Seasons hotel and residences. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect’s injuries were not specified. The suspect, identified as 70-year-old Jay Stevens Berger, fired at least once from the balcony of a residence and used multiple weapons. Police responded to a dispute between a building worker and the suspect on the 33rd floor, leading to the standoff. The floor was evacuated, and the suspect was ultimately taken into custody without further injuries reported. The incident prompted a shelter-in-place order that was later lifted, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will review the officers’ response. The Four Seasons hotel occupies part of the high-rise, with residences and office space also present. A hotel spokesperson emphasized that the incident occurred in a residential condominium not managed by the hotel. The Atlanta Police Department was praised for their handling of the situation, with Mayor Andre Dickens mentioning the suspect wore what appeared to be a gas mask during the incident. The safety of guests and employees remains a top priority for the hotel.
