A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murdering his parents and three siblings, as well as attempting to murder another sibling who survived the attack at their home in Washington state. The teen has been charged with five counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted murder. The charges have been designated as acts of domestic violence, with a firearms enhancement for the attempted murder count.
The teen, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, was taken into custody on the day of the shooting and is being held in a juvenile detention facility. His attorneys maintain that he is innocent of the charges and described him as a normal teenager with no criminal history.
One child in the home survived the attack and has since been discharged from the hospital. The adult victims have been identified as Mark and Sarah Humiston, who homeschooled their children and were active in the community.
The tragic event has left the community in shock, with neighbors and colleagues expressing their grief and disbelief over the loss of life. Mark Humiston worked as an electrical engineer and was described as a respected colleague and friend. His company expressed deep sadness over the loss.
During a court appearance, the teen waived his right to appear and was ordered to have no contact with the surviving sibling. The case has sparked widespread sadness and confusion as the community struggles to make sense of the horrific incident.
