Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has agreed to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump on Oct. 23 hosted by CNN. Harris’ campaign chair, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, stated that the American people deserve another opportunity to see the two debate before casting their ballots. This comes after Harris mentioned at an event in Georgia that she was trying to secure another debate. However, the Trump campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, pointed to a social media post by Trump declaring that there would be no third debate as they do not see it as necessary. Trump also mentioned in a recent interview and at a rally in North Carolina that it is too late for another debate as voting has already started. The potential debate between Trump and Harris would take place less than two weeks before Election Day, but weeks into early voting in multiple states. The statement from Harris’ campaign comes after the first debate between the two major-party nominees on Sept. 10 hosted by ABC, and after Trump debated President Joe Biden on CNN in June. The spokesperson for CNN did not immediately respond to the Harris campaign’s statement, indicating uncertainty about whether the debate will actually take place.
