Thousands Gather in Madison to Protest Trump, Demand ‘No Kings’

Thousands March in Madison’s “No Kings” Protest Against Trump Administration

MADISON, WI — Thousands gathered in Madison on Saturday for the "No Kings" protest to voice opposition to President Donald Trump’s administration amid rising tensions and violence nationwide. The rally, launched at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Library Mall, featured circus-themed festivities with speakers labeling Trump and his cabinet as “clowns,” targeting his controversial immigration policies.

The protest followed a recent surge of unrest in cities like Los Angeles and a tragic shooting targeting Minnesota Democrats, which left former House Speaker Melissa Hortman dead. Despite these events, the Madison march drew a crowd that stretched into the thousands, marching up State Street toward the Capitol with spirited music and encouragement from onlookers.

Prominent figures such as U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) addressed attendees, emphasizing the need for political leaders to take a stand against violence and division permeating the political landscape. Speakers also commemorated Hortman’s death in light of the recent violence, with some pointing fingers at the inflammatory political rhetoric stemming from the Trump administration.

Local residents, including Melody Hermanson, shared personal stories and displayed signs to raise awareness about the administration’s immigration actions. "I thought if everyone was made aware, they’d be just as outraged as I am," she remarked.

While Madison police reported no major incidents, they detained three individuals for allegedly damaging a law enforcement memorial. The overall atmosphere was one of solidarity and determination, echoing a broader movement seen across the nation with similar protests underway.

As the protest concluded, marchers reaffirmed their commitment to protecting constitutional rights and opposing the current political climate defined by fear and aggression.
