Evers Administration Secures $750,000 for Wisconsin Coastal Resilience

Madison, Wis. – Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) announced a significant funding boost for coastal resilience projects in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Coastal Management Program (WCMP) has secured over $750,000 in federal funds from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to enhance habitat protection and restoration along the Great Lakes shorelines.

Governor Evers emphasized the importance of safeguarding unique coastal habitats that have supported Wisconsin’s native species and cultural heritage for centuries. “It is critical that we continue our state’s proud history of conservation and stewardship,” he stated, highlighting the focus on flood management, erosion assessment, and wetland restoration.

The funding will be distributed through six grants to local and regional entities aimed at protecting and restoring critical natural areas. Notable recipients include the Northwestern Regional Planning Commission ($60,000) for hydrology modeling, the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission ($282,423) for climate adaptation projects, and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District ($192,829) for restoration efforts.

These initiatives promise to foster climate resilience and biodiversity, ensuring the health of Wisconsin’s coastal communities for future generations.
