Calls for Wauwatosa Schools Superintendent’s Firing Amid Community Debate
WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Tensions flared at a recent school board meeting on June 7, 2025, as the 2030 Tosa Task Force rallied for the dismissal of Wauwatosa Schools Superintendent Demond Means. Critics, including task force member Troy Woodard, cited a “pattern of poor leadership and a lack of transparency,” expressing concerns that these issues are eroding community trust.
In contrast, many parents defended the district’s progress under Means’ leadership. One parent emphasized the strides made despite a challenging landscape, stating, “Though progress is slow and change can be painful, there is much to celebrate.”
Responding to the protest, Wauwatosa School Board President Lynne Woerhle issued a statement refuting the grounds for firing Means, highlighting recent successes such as 48 students achieving ACT scores of 30 or higher, including a perfect score from one National Merit Scholarship winner.
The school board is set to evaluate Means on June 23, with stakeholders reflecting on the district’s direction amid these ongoing discussions. The meeting underscored a deeper community division over the future leadership of Wauwatosa Schools.
