Both Newsom and Bass have vehemently criticized Trump’s decision to deploy around 2,000 National Guard troops in response to rising protests, labeling it a move that could further inflame existing tensions surrounding immigration enforcement. In a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Newsom requested that the federal order be rescinded, arguing that state and local authorities are best suited to evaluate resource needs in such fluid situations.
