Michigan Football Faces Setback in 2026 RB Recruiting
The Michigan Wolverines’ quest to secure a future star running back for the 2026 recruiting cycle has hit a snag, as four-star prospect Amari Latimer has canceled his planned official visit to Ann Arbor. Instead, the Sandy Creek (GA) standout is heading back to Wisconsin, where he plans to spend additional time with the Badgers. Last weekend, Latimer visited Wisconsin for an official visit, and his return may signal a commitment to head coach Luke Fickell’s program. Currently ranked 287th nationally and 17th among running backs, Latimer has become a key target in Michigan’s recruitment strategy.
This recent development is just one of several disappointments for Michigan’s coaching staff. The Wolverines had previously pursued other notable targets without success; four-star Deshonne Redeaux committed to USC, while Javian Osborne chose Notre Dame, and Javian Mallory opted for Miami, leaving Michigan searching for its top choice.
However, the Wolverines remain in a strong position to land the top-tier running back in the cycle, five-star Savion Hiter from Mineral (VA). Hiter is considering Michigan alongside Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio State. Although he has yet to schedule an official visit to Ann Arbor, the recruitment appears to be narrowing to a duel between the Wolverines and the Volunteers.
The Wolverines have a strong track record with their running backs in recent years, and landing Hiter could solidify their continued success in this position. As recruitment unfolds, Michigan football looks to bounce back and secure a pivotal commitment for its future.
