University of Wisconsin Welcomes New Swimming and Diving Coach: Jack Brown
The University of Wisconsin has appointed Jack Brown as its new head swimming and diving coach, succeeding Yuri Suguiyama, who recently left to lead the USA Swimming national team. Brown, a former NCAA champion and 10-time All-American, brings a wealth of experience to the Badgers program.
At just 37 years old, Brown has spent the last six years as associate head coach at North Carolina, following a notable seven-year tenure at the University of Missouri. His swimming career includes competing in the 400 individual medley, 200 IM, and 200 breaststroke while at the University of Arizona from 2006 to 2010, where he significantly contributed to the Wildcats’ 2008 NCAA championship victory. Additionally, Brown is a former member of the USA Swimming national team, highlighting his elite-level experience.
Originally from Atlanta, Brown specializes in coaching individual medley, middle-distance, and distance swimmers and has also served as a mental performance coach, showcasing his multifaceted approach to athlete development. He takes over a Badgers program that saw significant success under Suguiyama’s leadership, including three NCAA championships won by athletes Beata Nelson, Phoebe Bacon, and Paige McKenna over the past seven years.
While Ohio State paid Suguiyama an annual salary of $188,085 for the 2024-25 season, details regarding Brown’s contract and salary have yet to be disclosed by Wisconsin officials. As Brown steps into this pivotal role, he aims to continue the legacy of excellence established by his predecessor and elevate the Badgers to new heights in collegiate swimming and diving.
