UW-Oshkosh Celebrates Athletic Excellence at Eighth Annual Oshcars
OSHKOSH, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Athletics Department hosted its eighth annual Oshcars awards ceremony on April 28, honoring the achievements of student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Held at the Culver Family Welcome Center, the event saw over 400 votes cast, celebrating the accomplishments from the 2024 spring season through the 2024-25 winter campaign.
Student-athletes from all 20 sports participated in the evening, introducing awards and highlighting their peers’ achievements. The ceremony encompassed 20 awards, including the coveted John Taylor Senior Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Michael Patton, a professor at the university and a familiar voice at home games, served as emcee, lightening the mood with humor and engaging activities for attendees.
Significant achievements recognized included the Picture of the Year, awarded to the Women’s Volleyball team’s celebratory photo post their WIAC Tournament semifinal victory, and individual accolades such as the Male and Female Newcomer of the Year awards going to Joey LaChapell (Men’s Basketball) and Paige Seckar (Women’s Basketball), respectively.
Highlights also included the Titan Give Back Award for Women’s Volleyball, recognizing their community service during a trip to Costa Rica. The Team GPA Award went to Women’s Basketball for boasting the highest combined GPA.
In individual honors, significant performers included Joshua Rivers (Men’s Track & Field), who set an NCAA Division III long jump record, and Megan Hunt (Women’s Track & Field), who excelled in multiple events. Scholar-athlete awards were awarded to Kayce Vaile (Women’s Basketball) and John Schirger (Football), saluting their academic and athletic contributions.
The Oshcars truly showcased the spirit of Titan athletics, celebrating not only athletic skill but also academic perseverance and community involvement, illuminating the heart of UW-Oshkosh’s mission.
