‘Tiffany to Decide by August on Governor Run’

GOP Rep. Tom Tiffany Mulls 2026 Gubernatorial Bid

Milwaukee, WI – GOP Representative Tom Tiffany has announced he is considering a run for governor in 2026, with a decision expected by the August recess. In an interview with WISN 12’s “UpFront,” Tiffany emphasized that his immediate focus remains on fulfilling his congressional duties for Wisconsin’s 7th District. “Where can I do the most good for the people in the state of Wisconsin, and am I the best candidate?” Tiffany remarked, underlining the need to assess his potential candidacy in the context of current events in Washington, D.C.

Tiffany referred to a recently passed tax and spending bill in the House, arguing that excessive government spending has fueled inflation and escalating interest rates. He expressed hope for deeper budget cuts in the Senate, where Senator Ron Johnson has been a vocal advocate for fiscal restraint.

Tiffany also dismissed Democrat concerns about potential Medicaid cuts, arguing that able-bodied, childless adults should actively seek employment. He pointed to a previous state referendum, where 80% supported work requirements for this group, suggesting most will find employer-provided health insurance.

Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin criticized the House GOP’s tax bill for its haste and potential harm to average citizens. Baldwin advocates for tax policies that prioritize the middle class and condemned the continued tax breaks for the wealthy.

In related news, Appeals Court Judge Chris Taylor revealed her intention to accept donations from Democratic supporters in her campaign against incumbent Justice Rebecca Bradley, emphasizing her commitment to individual rights, in contrast to Bradley’s conservative stances.

As the 2026 election cycle approaches, Tiffany, Baldwin, and Taylor’s contrasting priorities highlight the ongoing political currents in Wisconsin.
