Travelers Discover the Taste of Laguna Burger on Historic Route 66
Laguna, NM—May 24—Tucked away just off Interstate 40 at the eastern edge of the Pueblo of Laguna, the original Laguna Burger and Route 66 Pit Stop has become a must-stop destination for hungry travelers. Located beside a convenience store on historic U.S. Route 66, it offers an inviting atmosphere that beckons both road warriors and locals.
During a recent visit on a quiet Sunday afternoon, I ordered the famed Laguna Burger priced at $10.99, opting to forgo the usual lettuce and tomato. Accompanying my burger were crispy onion petals ($5.99) and chile cheese fries with green ($6.25). To my delight, the food arrived in record time, bursting with mouthwatering aromas that promised a satisfying meal.
The onion petals—crispy and sweet—were reminiscent of a blooming onion but remained delightfully crunchy. The Laguna Burger was a revelation: juicy beef infused with a smoky char and adorned with zesty green and red chiles that added a perfect kick. The addition of pickles and cheese rounded out the flavors beautifully, while the light touch of mustard let the savory beef take center stage.
The chile cheese fries were equally impressive, hot enough to melt the cheese and perfectly crunchy, with every bite contrasting the irresistible spiciness of the chile.
Dining outside, I enjoyed the scenic view while learning about the historical significance of Route 66. A friendly stop for travelers since the Dust Bowl era, Laguna continues to be a welcoming pit stop.
For those traveling along I-40 this summer, a detour to experience the quintessential Laguna Burger is a culinary journey worth taking. I certainly found it more satisfying than waiting for an In-N-Out Burger back in Flagstaff.
