Badgers News: Wisconsin Achieves Unexpected High Ranking in Latest ESPN Poll

Wisconsin Badgers Prepare for Tough 2025 Season Amid Roster Revamp

MADISON, WI – After a lackluster 2024 season that left them out of bowl contention, the Wisconsin Badgers are gearing up for a renewed campaign in 2025, following an intensive spring football program. The team has significantly overhauled its roster, particularly on defense, leveraging the transfer portal to strengthen key positions.

Despite these changes, the Badgers face a challenging road ahead, as ESPN analyst Bill Connelly’s SP+ projections rank their upcoming schedule as the fourth hardest in the nation. Only Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Florida, all from the SEC, boast tougher slates.

In Connelly’s SP+ preseason projections, Wisconsin finds itself ranked 37th overall, placing 10th within the competitive Big Ten Conference. Key metrics shaping this rank include returning production, recent recruiting successes, and historical performance. The Badgers’ defense is earning praise, ranked 24th nationally, while their offense struggles, positioned at 73rd. Special teams follow closely behind at 70th.

Connelly emphasizes that SP+ is an efficiency-based metric rather than a straightforward team ranking. These projections predict outcomes based on sustainability rather than past resumes, making them useful for analyzing early offseason expectations.

Given the grueling schedule ahead, Wisconsin is projected to secure only about 5.2 wins in 2025, raising questions among fans and analysts alike: Are the Badgers truly a top-40 team?

As Wisconsin transitions into summer training, the coaching staff and players are focused on improving from last season’s disappointments. With a strengthened roster and high aspirations, all eyes will be on how they tackle one of the toughest schedules in college football.
