Wisconsin Badgers Shine at Big Ten Outdoor Track Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – The 2025 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships kicked off at Hayward Field, witnessing notable performances by the University of Wisconsin Badgers. Senior Cole Hooper earned Wisconsin’s first points of the competition with a personal best in the hammer throw, launching the implement a remarkable 216-11 feet, placing eighth and solidifying his name fifth in the school’s history. Fellow senior Jacob Zednik also made a mark, securing seventh in the javelin with a throw of 224-5 feet.
In the 1500-meter trials, Adam Spencer and freshman Liam Newhart advanced to the finals on Sunday, finishing second and fifth respectively. Spencer’s time of 3:42.39 was just narrowly behind the leader, earning him an automatic qualifying spot. Newhart’s performance was equally impressive, with a time of 3:43.19.
Bob Liking led the Badgers in the 10,000 meters, finishing ninth with a time of 29:28.20, while teammate Johnny Livingstone followed closely, taking 11th place. The championships continue Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT, with fans able to watch live on Runnerspace or Big Ten Plus.
