Community Shares of Wisconsin Celebrates Civic Champion with Backyard Hero Award
Community Shares of Wisconsin, a coalition of nearly 70 nonprofit organizations focused on crucial social issues such as voting rights, environmental protection, and LGBTQ+ rights, has honored Peter Cannon with its esteemed Backyard Hero Award. This accolade recognizes individuals and organizations effecting positive change within the community.
Cannon has been a board member of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign since 2005. This nonprofit watchdog, dedicated to ensuring clean government, prioritizes the voices of people over monetary influence. Following his retirement from the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau, Cannon continued his nonpartisan advocacy through the Democracy Campaign, reinforcing democratic institutions and civic health.
In addition to his involvement with the Democracy Campaign, Cannon contributes to the UW School of Veterinary Medicine’s Animal Care and Use Committee and actively participates in the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance. His advocacy spans a variety of platforms aimed at combatting governmental corruption and promoting fair elections and transparency.
Community Shares of Wisconsin continues to spotlight local heroes like Cannon each month through the Backyard Hero Awards, sponsored by 105.5 Triple M, Isthmus, and Budget Signs, to acknowledge those dedicated to improving our society.
