Wausau Police Investigate Drowning of 16-Year-Old
WAUSAU, Wis. — The Wausau Police Department is actively investigating the drowning of a 16-year-old boy, whose body was recovered from the Wisconsin River on Sunday evening. According to a press release, witnesses reported seeing the teen enter the river from the boat and kayak dock located in the 1200 block of North River Drive around 8:30 p.m.
By approximately 9 p.m., a substantial law enforcement presence was noted near the Wausau Riverlife Apartments and Wausau on Water, with at least nine vehicles, along with fire trucks and ambulances, responding to the scene. A fan boat was also deployed in the effort. Fire personnel recovered the body around 9:10 p.m., and despite immediate life-saving measures en route to the hospital, the teen was later pronounced dead.
Initial findings indicate no evidence of foul play, but the investigation remains ongoing, with authorities withholding further information at this time. Community members are urged to stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
