LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has elevated fire danger levels in several counties due to ongoing hot and dry conditions. La Crosse, Trempealeau, Buffalo, Pepin, Pierce, and Dunn counties are now classified under a "high fire danger" status, indicating that wildfires can ignite easily, spread rapidly, and prove difficult to control.
Meanwhile, Monroe, Jackson, Clark, Eau Claire, and Chippewa counties have been escalated to a "very high fire danger" level. At this stage, the risk of wildfires starting and spreading with increased intensity is significantly heightened. Rusk County has reached an "extreme fire danger" designation, reflecting a perilous situation where wildfires ignite quickly, spread aggressively, and burn intensely.
