Construction Begins on Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge and Trail
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Sauk and Dane counties have officially commenced construction on the Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge and Trail, a project aimed at connecting the Great Sauk State Trail with the upcoming Walking Iron Trail in Dane County. "This project is a shining example of what we can accomplish when communities work together with a shared vision," remarked Dane County Executive Melissa Agard, emphasizing the importance of collaboration.
The bridge symbolizes a commitment to community well-being, environmental responsibility, and regional economic growth, according to Heidi Koch, Sauk City Village Administrator. She noted that the project reflects over two decades of teamwork among various stakeholders.
Integral to this celebration was the participation of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, aligning with “National Tourism Week.” The Walking Iron Trail, designed as a 3-mile rail-to-trail conversion, will extend from the bridge to a Wisconsin DNR parking lot on State Highway 78, enhancing recreational opportunities and promoting tourism in the area. As the project unfolds, it highlights the rich heritage and future potential of the region’s outdoor spaces.
