Press Release: UW-Whitewater’s Kelly Huerta Shines in WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlight
WHITEWATER, WI – This week, Kelly Huerta, a freshman track and field athlete from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is featured in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s (WIAC) inaugural "Student-Athlete Spotlight" series, presented by Culver’s.
Hailing from McHenry, Illinois, Huerta chose UW-Whitewater for its proximity to home, beautiful campus, and robust business program. “The coaches had a clear vision for me on the track team, which influenced my decision,” she said.
As a competing member of the WIAC, Huerta appreciates the competitiveness and diversity of the conference. “Being around so many talented athletes who share a love for track makes competing here exciting,” she noted.
On campus, while Huerta is currently focused on her track career, she intends to join more organizations in the future. Her favorite moments on the track include running in the 4x100m relay, where her team broke the school record, highlighting the spirit of teamwork in what can often feel like an individual sport.
Off the field, Huerta enjoys spending time with her teammates, often going out to eat or shopping after practice. She cites her parents as her biggest inspiration, praising their hard work and kindness. For aspiring student-athletes, Huerta advises, “Enjoy every moment as a student-athlete; it’s a privilege that won’t last forever.”
With dreams of owning a personal finance business and possibly coaching, Huerta also maintains an adventurous spirit, with aspirations that include skydiving and traveling the world.
The WIAC will share new spotlight features weekly, celebrating the dedication and accomplishments of student-athletes throughout the academic year.
