Governor Evers Celebrates Wisconsin’s Tourism Boom During National Travel and Tourism Week
MADISON, WI — Governor Tony Evers concluded a week-long tour celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), showcasing Wisconsin’s vibrant tourism sector. The governor visited art and history museums, state parks, and local communities, emphasizing the need for increased legislative investments to bolster the state’s tourism economy.
“Our travel and tourism industry generates billions for local businesses and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs,” Evers noted. He advocated for strategic investments to sustain this crucial sector during the upcoming state budget discussions.
While the 2024 economic impact data will be released next month, preliminary figures show that Wisconsin’s tourism sector had a $25 billion economic impact in 2023, marking a 5.4% increase and welcoming 113 million visitors. This year also saw record-breaking overnight stays, with nearly 46 million visits. Additionally, every one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties experienced growth in tourism-related economic impact.
Evers’ proposed budget includes nearly $34 million for the Department of Tourism and $5.9 million aimed at supporting the arts. He also proposed permanent funding for the Wisconsin Office of Outdoor Recreation, emphasizing the importance of outdoor experiences for economic growth.
Tourism-related visits included highlights from the Wisconsin Logging Museum in Eau Claire to Pattison State Park and LaClare Creamery, showcasing the state’s diverse attractions and agritourism potential.
As summer approaches, the “Here’s to Those Who Wisconsin” campaign will promote regional travel opportunities across the Midwest, inviting visitors to experience the state’s unique offerings.
Evers’ tour underscores the critical role of tourism in Wisconsin’s economy, calling for ongoing legislative support to ensure its continued growth and development.
