Press Release: Successful Turnout at Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s Annual Plant Sale
Owensboro, KY — The Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s annual Plant Sale & Gardeners Market saw a significant turnout this past Saturday, thanks to perfect weather conditions. Customers flocked to the event to explore an impressive variety of plants, including native and non-native perennials, herbs, and tomato plants, all showcased on multiple tables prepared by master gardeners.
Event co-chair Cathy Schmitt expressed gratitude for the sunny weather and noted the event’s evolution. "We’ve worked hard… introducing vendors has made it a much better event," she said, emphasizing that proceeds from most sales benefit the botanical garden, outside of tomato and pepper plants.
Schmitt also highlighted improved plant quality this year, with a notable interest in native plants. "We’ve sold a lot of natives, which are beneficial for pollinators," she remarked.
Co-chair Regenia Sims called the event “wonderful,” acknowledging a mix of new and experienced gardeners eager to share native plants. Customers were seen with boxes brimming with greenery, showcasing the event’s popularity.
Joyce Riney, president of the Green River Area Extension Master Gardeners chapter, was thrilled with the turnout, revealing that many tables had been emptied by midday.
Local vendor Anna Weber shared her floral creations and remarked on the steady foot traffic at her booth. Meanwhile, Madison Love, who has participated for the third year, showcased her diverse offerings of tulips and houseplants, praising the community-connecting aspect of the event.
Overall, the successful Plant Sale & Gardeners Market not only supported local biodiversity through plants but also fostered a sense of community among garden enthusiasts.
