Wisconsin Athletics Celebrates Student-Athlete Excellence at The Buckinghams

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin Athletics proudly held its 17th annual showcase, The Buckinghams, on Wednesday night at the Overture Center for the Arts. This cherished tradition brings together the campus, community, and athletic department to honor the achievements of student-athletes who exemplify the pride of being a Badger.

Emceed by former men’s basketball star Jordan Taylor, the event recognized outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments. Among the highlights were the presentation of four major awards: the Big Ten Medal of Honor, Scholar Athletes of the Year, Perseverance Award, Badger Pride, and Student-Athletes of the Year.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor, established in 1915, is the conference’s highest accolade, awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from each institution for exceptional proficiency in both athletics and academics. This year, the prestigious honor went to Bob Liking from Men’s Cross Country & Track and Field and Phoebe Bacon from Women’s Swim and Dive.

The Scholar Athletes of the Year Award recognized exemplary junior and senior scholars, with Taylor Cataldi (Women’s Tennis) and Simon Tassy (Men’s Hockey) taking home the honors. Finalists included Ashley Martinez (Women’s Soccer) and Rianne Wagner (Women’s Rowing), among others.

The Perseverance Award highlighted student-athletes who overcame significant challenges, awarded to Kate Linkletter (Softball) and Aaron Witt (Football). Badger Pride recipients, Macy Mosner (Women’s Rowing) and Darryl Peterson (Football), were recognized for embodying team spirit and enthusiasm.

Finally, the Student-Athletes of the Year, Casey O’Brien (Women’s Hockey) and Will Klipstine (Men’s Rowing), were honored for their excellence in leadership, academics, and sport, encapsulating the essence of being a Badger.
