WIAC Announces Weekly Student-Athlete Spotlight Featuring Nicole Zoellner of UW-La Crosse
La Crosse, WI – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has launched its “Student-Athlete Spotlight” program for the 2024-25 academic year, highlighting two student-athletes each week. This week, UW-La Crosse senior Nicole Zoellner, a standout in softball and aspiring athletic trainer, takes center stage.
Hailing from Gleason, Wisconsin, Zoellner chose UW-La Crosse for its supportive campus culture and athletic community that felt like home. Majoring in Exercise Sport Science with minors in Nutrition and Coaching Competitive Athletics, she exemplifies the balance between academic and athletic excellence characteristic of NCAA Division III athletes.
In addition to her athletic commitments, Zoellner is involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and the UW-La Crosse Athletic Training Association. She appreciates the competitive spirit of the WIAC, stating, “Each game is a challenge; no victory is guaranteed.”
Her favorite Culver’s menu item is Chicken Tenders with Fries, and she enjoys the flavor of the day, Crazy For Cookie Dough. Off the field, she bonds with teammates over reality shows like “Dancing With the Stars” and looks up to her dedicated teammate, Elise Weinzierl.
Zoellner’s advice for younger athletes is to embrace their roles fully and maintain a strong work ethic, as hard work pays off in unexpected ways. Her dream job is to become an athletic trainer in the NFL, possibly for the Green Bay Packers.
With a bucket list that includes attending the Women’s College World Series and seeing Garth Brooks live, Zoellner’s passion extends beyond sports. Her pre-game ritual involves braiding her hair and listening to “Dixieland Delight.”
Stay tuned each Thursday for more insights from WIAC student-athletes throughout the year.
