Wisconsinites are being encouraged to participate in Drug Take Back Day on April 26 in order to safely dispose of unused medications and educate the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper disposal. Over 170 events are planned across the state, providing a convenient and responsible means of getting rid of prescription and over-the-counter medications. Attorney General Josh Kaul is urging people to clean out their medicine cabinets and take advantage of the event, or utilize one of the hundreds of permanent disposal boxes available throughout Wisconsin. Participants are reminded not to flush or pour medications down the drain, as water facilities are not equipped to remove pharmaceuticals. Household waste pharmaceuticals are accepted, but businesses are not allowed to participate. Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as vape pens with batteries removed. Illicit substances such as marijuana and methamphetamine are not accepted.
