Federal Authorities Arrest Wisconsin Judge Accused of Aiding Illegal Migrant in Evading ICE Agents After Assaulting Victim

Judge Hannah Dugan of Milwaukee County was arrested for allegedly aiding an illegal immigrant to evade ICE agents in her courtroom after a pre-trial hearing. The FBI Director announced the arrest but later deleted a related social media post. Dugan’s attorney stated that the arrest was not in the interest of public safety. The criminal complaint states that Dugan directed federal agents to the chief judge’s office after being shown an immigration warrant for the suspect, Eduardo Flores Ruiz. After a brief foot chase, Flores Ruiz was arrested outside the courthouse. Dugan’s arrest is seen as part of a larger conflict between the Trump administration and the judiciary over immigration policies. Democratic Mayor Cavalier Johnson criticized the arrest, accusing the feds of showboating. Dugan’s arrest comes after a retired New Mexico judge was arrested for sheltering a suspected gangbanger. Dugan, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School and practiced at Legal Action of Wisconsin and the Legal Aid Society, had been on the Milwaukee County bench for nearly a decade. Her arraignment is set for May 15. The incident highlights the challenges faced by judges in handling politically sensitive cases and the ongoing debate over sanctuary city policies.
