Union Health Minister JP Nadda emphasized the importance of liver care and highlighted that fatty liver is preventable and reversible with a healthy lifestyle and better food choices. Speaking at the ‘Liver Health Pledge Ceremony,’ Nadda warned of the serious health risks associated with fatty liver, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.
Nadda urged people to make simple changes in daily habits, such as reducing oil usage in cooking, to maintain a healthy liver. He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to cut down on oil by 10% to prevent non-communicable diseases and improve liver health. Nadda encouraged everyone to take a pledge to care for their liver, undergo regular check-ups, and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
This year’s ‘World Liver Day’ theme, ‘Food is Medicine,’ highlighted the connection between nutrition and liver health. The Health Ministry, in collaboration with FSSAI and ILBS, organized a liver health camp and exhibition promoting liver-friendly foods like millets, cruciferous vegetables, fatty fish, nuts, citrus fruits, and healthy fats. These foods are rich in nutrients that support liver health, bile production, and reduce inflammation, preventing liver diseases like NAFLD.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of liver health and encourage individuals to make dietary choices that benefit their liver. By promoting healthy eating habits and regular check-ups, the government hopes to prevent liver diseases and improve public health outcomes.
