U.S. Senator Baldwin discusses Trump’s tariffs, Medicaid cuts, and endangered food assistance during Wisconsin tour

This past week, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin made stops in various cities across Wisconsin to engage with families, businesses, and non-profits affected by current political policies. In Milwaukee, Senator Baldwin met with local small business owners to discuss how President Trump’s trade policy has led to increased costs and uncertainty, making it difficult for businesses to plan for the future. She also toured Merrill’s Main Street to understand the impact of rising costs due to tariffs. Senator Baldwin emphasized the need to support Made in Wisconsin businesses and reduce the financial burden on families.

Continuing her “Hands Off Medicaid” tour, Senator Baldwin visited Green Bay and Wausau to meet with individuals who rely on Medicaid for essential health care, expressing concern over the proposed Republican budget plan that includes significant cuts to the program. She emphasized the importance of protecting Medicaid as a lifeline for many Wisconsinites in need of medical services.

In Rhinelander, Senator Baldwin addressed the impact of the Trump Administration’s cuts to food assistance programs, highlighting the threat it poses to food banks in Wisconsin. At the Rhinelander Food Pantry, it was revealed that funding cuts for programs like LFPA and TEFAP jeopardize the ability to feed families in need. Senator Baldwin also visited the Ozaukee Food Alliance in Saukville to discuss how cuts to TEFAP will result in fewer meals for vulnerable children and families in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Overall, Senator Baldwin’s visits aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by Wisconsin communities and to advocate for policies that benefit families, businesses, and non-profits across the state.
