A farming couple in Wheatland, Wisconsin, has built one of the most efficient and eco-friendly homes in the state. Paul Maggio and Marisa Wiewall, owners of Starry Nights Farm, constructed their home to be a certified Passive House, prioritizing energy efficiency through insulation, airtightness, and ventilation. The home, completed in 2020, requires less energy for heating and cooling, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. Despite the higher cost of building a passive home, the couple believes the investment is worth it for the sustainability and reduced bills in the long run. The home features reclaimed wood, solar panels, and high-grade materials that ensure durability and low maintenance. In addition to being environmentally friendly, passive homes also offer a healthier indoor environment with a self-regulating ventilation system that maintains air quality. With about 20 passive homes in Wisconsin and a convention coming to Milwaukee in October, this sustainable building trend may shape the future of home construction.
