Gavin Meier, the top football recruit in Wisconsin’s 2026 class, has decided to play for the border rival Gophers instead of the heavily-recruiting Badgers. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound tackle cited Minnesota’s recent success, with three out of four wins against Wisconsin and a perfect 6-0 record in bowl games under coach P.J. Fleck, as reasons for his decision. Meier also felt that Gophers offensive line coach Brian Callahan could help him achieve his NFL aspirations. Despite Wisconsin’s best efforts and Meier’s positive feelings towards their coaching staff, he ultimately chose Minnesota. According to Meier, Wisconsin is not the same program it used to be under Barry Alvarez, and he believes that anything could happen, even with coach Luke Fickell signed on. Meier will bring his talent to the U in 2026 and has high hopes for his future with the Gophers. As the No. 40-ranked offensive tackle nationally, Meier is confident in his decision and is looking forward to continuing his football career at Minnesota.
