How to apply to join the Wisconsin DNR’s 2026 warden recruiting class

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is accepting applications for the next class of conservation wardens from April 10 through May 6. The DNR plans to hire about 10 full-time wardens for the upcoming 2026 class, with training starting in either January or April 2026 based on experience level. Conservation wardens enforce laws protecting fish and wildlife, the environment, state parks, and outdoor recreation enthusiasts while also serving as ambassadors and educators for natural resource conservation. Applicants are encouraged from various backgrounds, and no prior experience is required, as the DNR offers comprehensive training to all new hires. Desired skills include strong communication, a passion for protecting natural resources, honesty, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities. A virtual webinar will be held on April 22 to discuss the hiring process and training program, and “office hours” sessions with current wardens will be available for prospective applicants. For more information, visit the DNR website or contact recruiting officer Mary Bisch.
