Musk-backed super PAC enters the arena of Florida’s special elections

A super PAC associated with billionaire Elon Musk has started spending money in two Republican House seats in Florida ahead of special elections next week. America PAC, largely funded by Musk last year, is supporting Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis in the 1st Congressional District and state Sen. Randy Fine in the 6th District. The PAC is spending $20,000 on texting services in these races, according to a recent campaign finance report.

While America PAC’s spending is relatively minimal compared to other contributions, it suggests Musk’s interest in these contests as he becomes more politically active. The special elections in Florida are in heavily Republican areas, with President Trump winning both districts by large margins in the 2020 election. House Republican leaders are concerned about the 6th District race following the resignation of former Rep. Mike Waltz, with Randy Fine trailing in fundraising compared to his Democratic opponent. Likewise, Jimmy Patronis is facing a strong challenge from gun control activist Gay Valimont in the 1st District to replace former Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Both Patronis and Fine have received endorsements from Trump and support on his social media platform, Truth Social. Meanwhile, America PAC has also spent millions on a state Supreme Court race in Wisconsin. Musk’s involvement in these races highlights his increasing political engagement while serving as a key White House adviser.
