Sheriff of Union Parish Introduces Latest Technology Upgrades

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office has recently implemented new tools to enhance their law enforcement capabilities. Sheriff Dusty Gates introduced 24 new body cameras for patrol deputies, promoting transparency and accountability in their interactions with the public. These cameras will provide reliable records of field activities, ensuring the safety of both deputies and civilians. In addition to the body cameras, UPSO has acquired a high-tech drone with a thermal camera for search-and-rescue missions, suspect tracking, and emergency responses. Chief pilot Deputy Burt Green, along with additional deputies, will undergo specialized training to operate the drone safely and effectively. The thermal drone will offer an aerial perspective, aiding in the detection of heat signatures, navigation in nighttime operations, and assessment of potentially hazardous situations. These advancements reflect UPSO’s commitment to modernizing their operations and improving service to the community. The UPSO Drone Team is set to utilize the drone once training is complete, with the body cameras already issued to patrol deputies.
