Group funded by Elon Musk offering Wisconsin voters $100

Billionaire Elon Musk’s political action committee, America PAC, is offering Wisconsin voters $100 to sign a petition opposing “activist judges” just before the state’s Supreme Court election. The move is seen as an attempt to influence the election in favor of Brad Schimel, the preferred candidate of Musk and Republicans. The election will determine the balance of the court between conservative and liberal justices.

The campaign for Susan Crawford, Schimel’s opponent, accused Musk of trying to buy votes and secure a favorable ruling in a lawsuit involving Tesla, where Musk is CEO. Musk’s groups have spent over $13 million supporting Schimel’s campaign, with electric car manufacturer Tesla suing Wisconsin over dealership regulations.

Musk’s tactic of offering money for petition signatures was previously used in battleground states before the November presidential election. The petition aims to gather data on Wisconsin voters and energize them to oppose “activist judges” who allegedly impose their personal or political views in rulings.

Crawford and her allies have criticized Schimel for his ties to Musk and Trump, with the Wisconsin Democratic Party releasing an ad accusing Musk of trying to buy the Supreme Court seat. Schimel, who campaigned with Donald Trump Jr., is portrayed as a pro-Trump conservative by Building America’s Future, another group funded by Musk.

The petition and Musk’s involvement in the election are seen as part of a broader effort to align the Supreme Court with Trump’s agenda and combat alleged judicial activism. Supporters of the petition argue for judges to interpret laws as written, not impose their own agendas.
