Parents of missing, Sudiksha Konanki, beg Dominican Republic police to officially declare her deceased.

The family of missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki has requested that police in the Dominican Republic declare her dead, as her body has not been found despite an extensive search. Konanki, 20, disappeared while on spring break with friends in the Caribbean nation on March 6. She was last seen at the beach with new acquaintances, one of whom was Joshua Riibe, a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Riibe has been interviewed by Dominican authorities and is being closely monitored by police, but no signs of violence were found at the beach where Konanki vanished.

Riibe recounted being with Konanki in waist-deep water before a wave pushed them out to sea. He managed to get her back to shore, but she disappeared shortly thereafter. Authorities in both the Dominican Republic and the U.S. have stated that there are currently no suspects in Konanki’s disappearance, viewing it as a missing persons case rather than a criminal matter. The resort where she was staying had raised red flags indicating strong currents and high waves at the time she disappeared. Konanki’s family has not made any additional comments, and the investigation into her disappearance continues. Sudiksha Konanki is a junior in biology at the University of Pittsburgh, originally from Loudoun County, Virginia.
