American Airlines plane’s engine ignites on landing in Denver

An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 flight from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport had to make an emergency landing at Denver International Airport after the crew reported engine vibrations. The plane landed safely, but the engine caught fire while taxiing to the gate, prompting the evacuation of all 172 passengers and six crew members onboard using the slides. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Videos posted on social media show the plane engulfed in smoke as passengers evacuate onto the wing and crew members try to extinguish the fire. American Airlines described it as an “engine-related issue” but did not provide further details. The FAA will investigate the incident. NBC News producer Jay Blackman and breaking news reporter Rebecca Cohen covered the story, with contributions from Bryan Gallion. American Airlines commended the quick and decisive actions of the crew, Denver International Airport team, and first responders in ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
