Fundraiser features Jones County “Celebrities” facing off against Granny Basketball team

The Jones County “Celebrities” recently faced off against the Grant Wood Gothics in a charity basketball game to raise money for the Jones County Safe & Healthy Youth Coalition. The eclectic team included local officials, a farmer, a pastor, and high school students, all coming together for a good cause. The event, organized by project coordinator Jennifer Husmann, aimed to fund trips for kids in the coalition to attend conferences and events.

In addition to the basketball game, the fundraiser featured creative ways to generate donations, such as making players wear oven mitts and implementing rules set by the Grant Wood Gothics. The team also auctioned off two quilts, with proceeds from one going towards the coalition and the other funding their trip to the 2025 National Granny Basketball Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.

Overall, the event was a fun and engaging way to support the community and raise money for important youth initiatives. The organizers hoped to provide kids with valuable experiences and opportunities, despite uncertainties caused by recent governmental changes. By coming together, the local community showed their support for the coalition and their commitment to investing in the future of Jones County.
