Dave LaPoint, who coached baseball at Florence High School for 47 years, has been inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. LaPoint’s impressive career included a record of 407-217, with 16 conference championships and 10 WIAA sectional appearances. In 1998, the Bobcats reached the state tournament, marking a historic moment for the Northern Lakes Conference.
During his induction ceremony in Madison, Wis., LaPoint credited his family for their unwavering support and recognized the talented players who contributed to Florence’s success over the years. This is not LaPoint’s first Hall of Fame induction, as he was previously honored by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association in 2004 for his achievements as a football coach.
A Kingsford resident and graduate of Iron Mountain High School, LaPoint’s football teams at Florence also had an impressive record, with 17 conference championships in 25 years and multiple postseason appearances. The team made it to the state semifinals in 1981 and the state finals in 1987 under LaPoint’s leadership.
LaPoint’s dedication to coaching and his ability to lead teams to success have left a lasting impact on the Florence community. His induction into the Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor for a coach who has dedicated almost five decades to shaping young athletes and building a winning program.
