Milwaukee fugitive Roland Munoz, accused of smuggling guns to Mexican cartel, has been arrested after years on the run, prosecutors announced. Munoz, along with five others, was charged in 2021 after a long investigation dubbed “Operation Ripsaw.” He is accused of leading a conspiracy to smuggle high-powered weapons into Mexico by recruiting straw purchasers in Wisconsin and other states. The conspirators purchased and attempted to smuggle over 25 guns, many of which were recovered in Mexico. Munoz faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted. His arrest was made in collaboration with Mexican officials and U.S. law enforcement agencies. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin provided information on the case. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal gun trafficking and provides a significant breakthrough in disrupting the operations of criminal organizations.
