GFL Environmental buys LRS’s Wisconsin assets

LRS, a waste hauler in the Midwest, has sold its Wisconsin assets to GFL Environmental to focus on organic growth in other core markets. The sale includes all assets in Wisconsin and a C&D MRF operating agreement in Madison. GFL already has a significant presence in Wisconsin and Illinois. The sale follows LRS’s acquisition of Illinois and Minnesota assets from GFL in 2020. LRS has been making strategic moves, including acquiring Wisconsin divestitures from Waste Management. The company underwent leadership changes in 2023 and 2024. The sale to GFL allows LRS to focus on long-term growth in other markets while ensuring a good return profile. GFL plans to increase M&A activity following the completion of its environmental services business sale. The sale marks the first known deal by GFL since the sale. LRS continues to operate in the Chicago area, as well as in Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, and Arkansas.
