Spotlight on Ben Kawczynski: Student-Athlete at UW-La Crosse

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) is featuring two student-athletes each week during the 2024-25 academic year in a “Student-Athlete Spotlight” segment. Ben Kawczynski, a senior wrestler from UW-La Crosse, is one of the athletes selected for this spotlight. Ben chose UW-La Crosse because of the family atmosphere of the wrestling team.

In addition to wrestling, Ben is involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus. He enjoys the competition in the WIAC and is proud to be part of a NCAA Division III institution. Ben’s favorite Culver’s menu item is Chicken Tenders with Cheese Curds, and his favorite flavor of the day is Cookie Dough Overload.

Ben’s greatest sports moment was winning the NWCA National Duals in his freshman year. Outside of sports, he enjoys going to the movies with his teammates. Ben looks up to Jesus Christ and advises younger student-athletes not to let their sport define them.

Describing himself as passionate, Ben’s dream job is to coach wrestling. He has three things on his bucket list: getting married, becoming a dad, and buying a house. Ben’s non-athletic talent is Spike ball, and his pre-game ritual involves praying to be calm and at peace while competing. The “Student-Athlete Spotlight” segments will be posted every Thursday throughout the academic year.
